Differential Pressure Oil Seal: The Precision Sealing Core of Industrial Rotating Equipment
In industrial fields such as electric power, petrochemicals, and machinery manufacturing, the sealing performance of rotating mechanical equipment directly determines equipment operational stability, service life and production safety. As a precision sealing component that achieves sealing relying on pressure difference, the differential pressure oil seal adopts a static sealing logic different from traditional contact oil seals. With controllable pressure difference as the core principle, it builds a stable oil film sealing barrier, effectively solving the problems of medium leakage and impurity intrusion of equipment under high-speed, high-pressure and variable working conditions. It is an indispensable core accessory for various high-end power equipment and fluid equipment.
A differential pressure oil seal is a non-contact/semi-contact sealing device that forms a continuous and stable sealing oil film in the sealing gap by utilizing the medium pressure difference inside and outside the sealing cavity. Its core design logic does not rely on rigid fitting sealing between the seal and the shaft. Instead, it precisely regulates the sealing oil pressure to keep the pressure of the sealing medium always higher than that of the medium inside the equipment cavity, and blocks the bidirectional flow of medium by means of pressure difference. It not only prevents the leakage of internal lubricating oil and process medium of the equipment, but also blocks the intrusion of external dust, moisture and impurities into the equipment, realizing bidirectional sealing protection.
Compared with ordinary oil seals, the most prominent feature of differential pressure oil seals is adaptability to dynamic working conditions. It can adaptively adjust the sealing effect with the pressure fluctuation inside the equipment, making it perfectly suitable for industrial equipment with complex working conditions such as steam turbines, compressors, Roots blowers and large reducers.
The sealing process of differential pressure oil seals is realized based on fluid mechanics principles, with an accurate and efficient overall operation logic, which is mainly divided into three stages: pressure regulation, oil film formation and bidirectional isolation:
Firstly, the supporting oil supply system of the equipment continuously delivers sealing oil to the oil seal sealing cavity. The pressure regulating structure precisely controls the sealing oil pressure to maintain a stable pressure difference of 0.02~0.05 MPa higher than the air pressure and oil pressure inside the equipment cavity, which is the core prerequisite for effective sealing. Secondly, after the pressurized sealing oil enters the tiny gap between the shaft and the oil seal, it spreads evenly to form a dense and uniform ultra-thin oil film under the drive of the high-speed rotating shaft, filling all the sealing gaps.
